ALLERGY
REDUCTION:
Improving Mood and Energy
By
Ronald R. Parks, MD
It
is estimated that 20 percent – 40 to 50 million people in this
country are affected by allergies, which can be a significant
contributor to fatigue, depression, anxiety, headaches or
attention problems as seen in ADD. These estimates only take
into account the easily recognized allergies such as to foods,
dust, pollen, mold or other airborne irritants, which causes
immediate reactions as sneezing and nasal congestion seen in
hay fever, asthma symptoms, rashes or hives. Proper
assessment and treatment of an allergy can be of critical
importance in regaining health and vitality.
The allergy connection is often missed if the reaction is
delayed for hours to days or presents itself with non-typical
symptoms as depression, fatigue or concentration problems. If
testing doesn’t demonstrate an immediate IgE antibody type
response, as seen with certain environmental irritants, the
reaction is often dismissed since the associated symptoms are
not universally accepted as true allergy and therefore are not
treated.
Another approach is to consider any substance or
environmental stimulus that is perceived by our body as
threatening or harmful be termed a “sensitivity,” which needs
to be reduced to successfully treat any condition where the
sensitivity has caused an excessive body or immune defensive
response. Environmental stimuli that are experienced as a
threat to the body’s wellbeing can launch a chain reaction of
physical or emotional responses that might cause significant
symptoms beyond what may be needed for the true safety of the
body.
To
reduce the symptoms experienced, caused by this dysfunctional
sensitivity response, a choice of different interventions can
be considered. In a classical immediate allergy response –
identification, avoidance or use of traditional allergy
blocking techniques such as using skin testing and allergy
shots may be a consideration. There are also more natural and
innovative treatment strategies. The use of elimination
diets, natural supplements as Quercitin and vitamin C, and/or
treating gut and digestive dysfunction are a few of many
helpful integrative approaches to allergies and sensitivity
reduction.
Low Dose Antigen therapy, LDA, is different from traditional
allergy blocking strategies that uses frequent allergy shots.
LDA gives very low doses of allergens every few months, or as
needed, to help the allergy response system to reset itself to
more appropriated responses when personal exposure occurs to
dust, pollen, mold, foods or chemicals.
In
the acupuncture model and now also known in modern physics,
the body is made up of subtle energy and energy fields. Any
external influence that is not actually toxic to the organism
can react negatively with a body’s energy field, that is out
of balance or has previously been disrupted, and can bring
about an over reactive bodily or emotional response.
Sensitivity Removal Technique, SRT, – developed by Dr. Sherry
Tenpenny, DO., combined some of the ideas and modalities from:
Acupuncture, Homeopathy, Kinesiology, BioSet, NAET and others.
From her work, a large population of patients with
significant allergies and sensitivities over a number of years
has showed major improvement and reduction in symptoms.
